Credit Union Student Choice is a credit union cooperative comprised of various private financial institutions and service organizations. This lending program is designed to match borrowers with credit unions from a long list of hundreds of member-owned institutions best suited to meet their needs. Whether or not Credit Union Student Choice is right for you ultimately depends on which local credit union you’re matched with as many terms of refinancing are determined by the specific credit union.
To qualify for a refinanced loan with this lender, you will need to become a member of whichever credit union you will be borrowing with. Most credit unions charge member fees for a share in the institution and many also have a list of eligibility requirements. These can depend on anything from area of residence to place of employment or may just require that you are a U.S. citizen.
Credit unions are generally able to offer robust customer service and perks to their members because they have fewer customers to attend to and are non-profit. Credit Union Student Choice provides free tutoring and financial literacy training to all borrowers.
Unfortunately, many of the things you might be wondering about this lender also depend on the specific credit union. These include whether or not a cosigner is allowed on an application and, if so, whether they can be released; financial assistance, such as forbearance, and other loan payment assistance availability; and even what your interest rate will be. Credit Union Student Choice promises that your rate will be competitive, but you’ll have to apply to find out for sure. Your credit decision, at least, will be instant through their online application process.
The minimum required to borrow is $5,000 and the maximum loan amount is $125,000. Length of repayment may be 5, 10 or 15 years. Only college graduates qualify.
